The power of lists

I've always been a big head of Linnet. When I was a kid, my parents were betting among themselves when they asked me to pick something up in the kitchen, that I was going to come back 2 minutes after to ask them what they wanted already. My father said that I was not in the Moon, but that I was downright stung my tent.

I am able to take off at any time, I have a lot of difficulty installing my attention too long and if I don't notice things, I instantly forget (and they come at the discretion of my thoughts).

That is why I am one of those unbearable people who cut off the floor. Sometimes when I think about something, If I do not say it in the minute it is flown away for ever. This is a nasty defect I know :/

But why I'm talking about it and what is the relationship with lists ?

And though because to be an organized person, succeed at work and not be completely unbearable I put in place a whole bunch of systems, and lists form part. But attention No matter how, because you can drown in lists.

At one time I had its post in all corners of things to remember, tons of notes which I forgot the meaning recorded in my iphone (Hey do you mean what already “height bouta 30cm” ?), of to do lists that I was sending by mail. But everything ended up part of the landscape or lost in cyber space.

I ended up thinking a bit about how all this could be optimized and I looked for what were the best tools that I would be able to use on a daily basis and by type of work. Good tools because there is full, everyone will advise you heaps. But must he find those that best adapt to your way of doing and your daily.

First observation : I use a lot my iphone when I'm not working and out of home, make a max of lists above for the newspaper and everything can I need when I'm not facing my computer was therefore preferred.

Second observation : I prefer to use my computer when I work, and I am all the time on chrome. Everything about the work should therefore be listed on apps that I would find.

The daily lists

On my iphone I therefore focused regarding daily, purchases, what I think when I'm out or when I do not work. And I tried to make maximum use of the native apps : notes and reminders.

For notes, He had to stop to create new permanent, I have therefore created 3 I used all the time : “shopping supermarket”, “miscellaneous purchases”, “small notes in bulk”. And I put them to constantly update.

In “shopping supermarket” easy, I do my shopping list. In “miscellaneous purchases” I note absolutely everything I need when it comes to the mind (often when I range home, I make lists of objects to find in precise dimensions to store even better :D), like that when I have a bit of time and I do stores, I have everything about me. And in “small notes in bulk” I note absolutely everything that I'd like to deepen, later when I'll be on my comp. And now I'm losing more clue.

I also use the “reminders”, It has a great feature : set a reminder when one is in a geographic area. I note everything that should I buy or that I go see in a specific store, and bim when I'm in the area I get a notif on my iphone. It's crazy the future.

I also have lists “gift ideas” “nice places to take pictures” “books to buy”…

Work lists

For the work, I do this a little differently : I make my to do list on my google calendar : I add tasks at specific times of the day, by evaluating the time they will take me. It prevents me to be too ambitious and make TB impractical do on a day where I already have a rendezvous for example. I try things with precision timer.

And so really I failed to do something, Instead it's still an item not scratched on a paper list, I move it to another day (always paying attention to the time).

Since I do this I feel less guilty, Finish to have the impression that I have damn nothing, It is marked on my calendar.

I could tell you about hours of my management agenda (I'm not crazy you know). Indeed I développerais can be more another day, It was question of my to do list only !

The idea of an agenda for my to do was first and foremost the idea of using a tool I used already much. I'm still a little reluctant to the idea of adding a new tool, often it is used one week and after it is finished.

But for lists of things I have to do “in the absolute” or my ideas, I ended up I decided to add a new tool to my list : trello. I've created several groups of lists by projects (le blog, one fine day, andy festival). It's great practice.

To do not miss anything of everything I put my agenda and trello as page that opens automatically when I open chrome. No need to open them in the morning, She jump in the eyes alone.

It was important for me to distinguish what I do daily and long-term,. It allows me to shoot a big amount of work without too much take me the head or being unrealistic. My to do and my well-managed calendar made me gain about 20% working time this year.

If you are still around bravo ! I have therefore failed to stuff you with my exciting stories of lists ! The love <3

Je suis comme toi, very distracted and fear of forgetting what I think (I cupabilise a little less often cut the floor mnt) at the same time I have PCO's list but your lists on your phone rating system is super interesting, I think I'll do the same :)

  3. 16 March 2016 at 12:13

I just go for a ride on trello, and it looks rather very nice !! Merci pour cette découverte !
And thanks also for this article, I always find it very interesting to see how people are organized in their work and their daily life, and what was the journey of reflection to arrive at this organization. In case, you made me want me to organize myself a bit better (or at least differently) on my list of things to do :-)
    Belle journée à toi !!

PS : by the way, where in is you with your new activity of wedding photographer ? I'd be curious to know how this are past your first marriages, your first contacts and your initial feedback on the subject !

    • 16 March 2016 at 12:16

At the moment weddings that I have covered may not have been published, but I think I can show one or two by September ;)

      • 17 March 2016 at 14:17

  4. 16 March 2016 at 12:14

Hehe I love your article, I like! And it's limit if I don't I will lose between all my lists lol
If you love the vintage, I created a site on this principle. You create a Broc'List with all your decorative desires (like that more oversight between pinterest, instagram etc…) and you can even appeal to the flea market hunters who found them for you ;-)
If you want more info do not hesitate. See you soon. Faustine

He he, I'm a fan of Trello for everything – job, voyages, daily life as restaurants to test, cravings, etc. !! they have even an app, so it replaces race lists flying everywhere.

When it comes to forget something along the way, I read a study (the well-known study which I do not know the source) who said that when it descended through a door, It was zap what we were trying to think. From time to time I think, je me dis, shit I passed the door, where oblivion. Useless but it makes smile.

    • 16 March 2016 at 12:26

Hey Hey I know not all this study ! May be that I pass the doors permanently :D

  6. 16 March 2016 at 12:38

I love Trello ! This is very useful, You can share it with colleagues in order to advance sets on projects. The system integration pictures and color label, I love also. It gives a really visual aspect to the list. :)
Merci pour cet article : I have learned that we can geo - locate notes ! A revolution !

Ah thanks for Trello! I'll try for my future work because in my head it's the brothel!

  8. 16 March 2016 at 12:40

But this article tells me bluntly! :D I'm a fan of lists and post-it, at the time I use google keep, I put on my chrome and on my smartphone (Android) (and my tablet also). You can either make a simple post-it, either a post-it “list”, You can choose colors, or do the wording, as I have also always everything constantly on me ^^

But I am absolutely a fan of callbacks that are triggered with the geographical areas! It is necessary that I lean on the issue! Thank you ^^

  9. 16 March 2016 at 13:03

Ohlala but I am so such (less organized Bon of the coup there based on what I just read x) ) but we always scolds me because to 26 years I still cut the floor, but people understand that it's super frustrating to be able to remember what it meant if it not said at the moment where we think it T.T the ugly default, and as more I am talkative, It suits not the schmilblick ! At the moment I have just a note book always with me and one on my desktop, and a memo in my phone, but it air really well this thing to note that te “sounds” When you're on the concerned place!!

  10. 16 March 2016 at 13:08

Merci pour cet article ! I love your how organize you and understand things. Being myself rather distracted daily, I got used to the to-do lists on paper that I keep in my small diary. One for very important things, one for the little things of everyday life. Like this, Once a task is completed, I savor the moment where I take my pen to put a small V front (small madness). And like you, It makes me feel good to see that I actually did the things of my day and my week.
Sinon, travel and outings, I like using Evernote, to make the sheets by area or cities, and classify them by their associated labels. You can access and edit them from any device, and that, which is handy.
Maintenant, I look forward your article on your agenda management :)

    • 16 March 2016 at 13:10

I tried lots of times to use Evernote because everyone was talking about, but I've never hooked. Like what the most important thing is to find the tool that suits us more personally ^^

  11. 16 March 2016 at 13:36

Me too I use Trello and I have a passion for the agenda. I really need to see to be effective I think! I use a Dropbox and Google doc to share docs with others.
Otherwise you know Slack? It's not bad when you mounted a project several. It is a shared messaging/chat and there are various channels of conversation that allow you to make different brainstorming or follow the progress of things simultaneously on several topics. I do not know if it is very clear but basically it avoids you the classic mail job that deviates on 1000 issues related with the title is all the content...

  12. 16 March 2016 at 13:51

The first part of your article I could write it so I get confused haha, I told about precisely with my boyfriend yesterday that I can't remember anything, I cut the word all the time do not forget what I wanted to say etc… It's well annoying sometimes. That's why I at least 50 lists in my phone, in my books, on my computer and I pass… One day I will be able to find me, peut-être !

  13. 16 March 2016 at 13:52

    Ouf ! I feel less alone ;)
It changes the life of making lists, long live the lists ! haha
    Merci pour cet article !

  14. 16 March 2016 at 13:53

Reassure you you're not the only one ! I too have a brain in the form of emmental, all escapes it's awful ! Fortunately we are well organized we small goldfish ;)
And then it's also a good excuse to buy beautiful books also !

  15. 16 March 2016 at 14:09

It speaks to me so oversights and post it everywhere but which ultimately are part of the landscape ! I add to it my billion tab on Chrome what should I read or interesting sites … I have used InstaPaper awhile but it solved nothing-_-‘
Thanks for your tips “list”, my notes and reminders go live in my iPhone, I'll inspire me to what you put in place to stop the carnage ^^
I had heard of Trello, and then I forgot … Thanks for the reminder, I'll go test it.

  16. 16 March 2016 at 14:43

Welcome to the club of the listers !
My husband found me sometimes ridiculous has all note like that but in the final c is my way d be panicking and it reassures me .
He loves sing me ” small papers ” by mocking kindly of me .

  17. 16 March 2016 at 14:50

I love when you talk of this kind of stuff ! I love organize me, and I love making lists ; optimize the space and time. But it is true that it is not easy to find the right tools to make ca practical and feasible, so the advice of others are always interesting ! I wish you a beautiful day and I can't wait to read your next article (like always)

  18. 16 March 2016 at 14:55

But it's not all boring! On the contrary.
I too am always a bit in the Moon, My maths teacher asked my neighbor of snapping fingers before my eyes take me among them, the entire class was dead laughing and I had not heard anything, too busy watching the clouds.
And that still happens to me to get completely.

I also do lists and I note in my calendar, otherwise I forget.

However the idea of not to litter his notes, This is what I tell myself at this moment, I have different notebooks to record all stuff, I am everywhere and it is the Bazaar.
Par contre, I stayed at the paper air.

  19. 16 March 2016 at 15:04

Ah trello! It's really been the revolution for me when I discovered the tool !! I can no longer do without now, my life is on it !! :D

  20. 16 March 2016 at 15:10

I have the same problem, I must say what passes through the head at that precise time, fault to forget! I also have the ability to move from one topic to another without necessarily remember to link for people who listen to me… I also wonder how do I continue to have friends!
Big fan of lists of any kind, I'll see this google calendar. I am often sir Safari so I should resume Chrome… If you have heard of Asana? It allows to make lists, but in addition to share them and give some deadlines to each! I'm pretty in love for all that is teamwork!
I also said that I wanted to try evernote, but ultimately for the moment I am still a my small notebooks!

  21. 16 March 2016 at 15:21

Hey. Not too like to comment here, even though I really like the content of your blog, whether it's your photos where subjects which you speak :).
Chance wants that I began to manage all my notes and to do lists (and other flying paper) a new way a month ago, suddenly I share:
The idea is to toooout together in a single book: time use, day to day management, lists various (book books, inspi, DIY, Reflections for the taf….) and everything that the person who is his diary needs. The everything works without becoming a big mess with an Index (and a little advance thought, certainly). Personally I love to hand-write, but always hated keep a diary, or have an agenda. And surprisingly this system works very well for me. Après, obviously, I also have my list of race on my Tablet, too lazy to re - write almost the same thing every week :p

I am aware that yon system to you looks well in place and that suddenly you don't need anything else. But if ever you felt like a day of something more analogous, or just try something else… And then I wanted to share my technique, Simply :)

    • 16 March 2016 at 16:08

I have already tested the bullets journal, but in fact the organization I realized that I was not very “paper” ;)

I agree, je suis aussi du genre à faire des listes partout, et sur tout! Et surtout pour faire mes valises quand je pars en voyage 😝 perso, c’est avec mon crayon Blanche-neige à jupon en tulle ☺

  23. 16 March 2016 at 16:43

Effectivement Trello est un super outil. C’est un ami développeur qui me l’a conseillé. J’ai essayé pas mal d’outils dans le genre mais c’est celui qui m’a le plus convaincu. J’aime l’idée d’avoir repris la méthode du Kanban.

P.S : Cette phrase m’a fait sourire : “That is why I am one of those unbearable people who cut off the floor. Sometimes when I think about something, If I do not say it in the minute it is flown away forever.” I me y am well recognized ;-)

  25. 16 March 2016 at 17:24

Like you I am a real head of Linnet and I do a lot of lists on my iPhone for the movies and the series I want to see, for books, for my purchases such as racing. Even when I organize things like evenings, one day it happened to me to note what I store and go out for the evening and my homies had fallen on the list and is were a good laugh by discovering my little manic side ^^’
In short it is true that it is the most convenient in the phone however I did not know all this reminder system that allows to have notifications when we are in a geographical area in particular, c’est génial :)

  26. 16 March 2016 at 18:12

Not bad the shot of the tent on the Moon, My father meanwhile repeatedly me “When there is no head there legs” and I returned fissa look for/do / try to remember what I forgot.

  27. 16 March 2016 at 18:20

So me!! I find myself completely in your post and lists save me lives, However when it comes to forget what I mean, I came to thought I had a d start’ Alzheimer's LOL

  28. 16 March 2016 at 18:25

Welcome to the club ^^ I managed to put a brake (not quite settled anyway ^^) in my post-it-Parker taking a bullet journal. That I ended up reorganizing my sauce, but the goal is to be more organized, He was suffering !
And there I just offer me a canon agenda, the Happy Planner of Me And My Big Ideas, and I think that it will take over !

  33. 17 March 2016 at 8:26

Haha, #toutpareil, They call me the goldfish home !
I has more kilometres travelled because of these daily oversights…
As would say my grand mother: “When we have to head there feet”
L’ IPhone has revolutionized my life through Notes and reminders…

PS: my parents also were betting on my oversights…the challenge was to give me 2 tasks at the same time…to move on I forgot one…. #sadism ;-)

  34. 17 March 2016 at 9:11

I just tested TRELLO, It is a revolution, merci, and at least I see that I am not the only one to lose myself in my brain, post-it and lists it is life !

  35. 17 March 2016 at 13:33

at the beginning of the article I agree so much my husband : who lives on the Moon and cut the floor all the time (often to say something that has nothing to do!). ;-) I'll try to be more tolerant when it happens…
after that, in the part lists, I totally recognize myself ! Finally in things to do : at work, I combined post-it with ideas of stuff to write…
I also laughed a lot on the part of the NOTES to the iphone.. I noticed a few Enigma codes… I do not absolutely know what it is.; I have also noted measures (??).
    Thank you for your advices.
I'll try to improve my use of my outlook at work calendar (not trello because no download on the job) and I will also try to optimize my iphone using !
Even though I like the leaves with the hand-written lists !! and pleased to check one of the elements !

  36. 17 March 2016 at 14:57

Thanks for the discovery of Trello, I started for some time to find a good “app” lists for my mac. And it got me the perfect air. Good my chrome must messing around because I never get to start with the page I selected, but c & rsquo; not matter…
I am an obsessive lists papers, I have about 3 Carnets Mr Wonderful (No this is not a hidden pub, but I love their agendas, very cute organisers) with roughly the same inside finally. I do lists just for the pleasure to, Watch them and block them ;)
    Bonne journée

  37. 17 March 2016 at 18:25

    Hello Eleonore,

And many thanks for this article !
Already, suddenly, I think it's going to, It is more of the same species mouahhaha (and ok, I admit it, It reassures me because with all the people around me, Sometimes I think I really have a case less :p )

Personally, I feel even a small moment of satisfaction / happiness start a list… It is as if it was the sesame of entry to a new super day of challenges.
But OK, well, I must admit that I often find it hard to get out of my spiral of lists of lists of lists (which list already ? and well,uh , the General of this subject of the detail of the month of .. janvier ? Ah yes good…) post-it on the wall or…

So your advice arrive somewhat like the light at the end of the tunnel and I will not employ me to follow your precious advice (starting with trello ) to confront my multiple storms… (business creators, Hello ^^)

  38. 18 March 2016 at 8:02

I understand you so much !
I am always full of lists also, in full of books :)

  39. 19 March 2016 at 10:22

j’aime beaucoup cet article. I am always looking for ideas to better organize myself. Since this year I have my google calendar instead of forcing me to take a paper agenda and it helped me a lot. I see clearer and like that I have both on my smartphone and my comp.
For lists, I me scatters many still with lots of notes in my laptop suddenly I'll try Trello !

Haha ! I love, I do all the time about lists… before I was even of what I put in my suitcase to go on vacation, Earrings socks, and with the number indicated !
I kinda calmed down, but I find that it is always as much practical !
I'll try your Trello app for my blog articles, as it's my hobby, I have great difficulty to squeeze time to do… it frustrates me a little :)

  42. 23 March 2016 at 12:41

I do like you, I note in Evernote. I have several types of notes. Reports of meetings, Project notes, perennial personal notes that I update continuously (to read / to have / shopping beauty / Wishlist deco / fashion wishlist / torque projects / sizes of clothing in various brands to order online / Christmas gifts that I feed all year round! / restaurants in test), drafts of emails or posts from blog, receipts and scan of recipes that I spotted in the press or on the web, articles to read, travel routes. In short there is my life. This must be one of the apps that I use the most.
Trello looks very interesting, but like you I would hesitate to use a tool and more.

  43. 24 March 2016 at 13:40

It made me well laugh. We find ourselves all face lists sans queue ni tête or who lost… For work I like trello also, I think it's effective and it meets my needs. Their mobile application is convenient also :-)

  44. 24 March 2016 at 14:20

Oh my God I am acknowledges so in this article ! Lists this is the logical extension of my body !
It would be great to have an article on your agenda, What is organization and all ! (The ill that I love this kind of article !)
I'm going to not checker trello !!

  45. 25 March 2016 at 20:40

I swear by Evernote to manage ongoing projects ! I recommend this app to that to worries of managing your time, both work for nothing forget making its grocery :)

  46. 30 March 2016 at 11:45

Salut Eleonore, your articles on storage fascinate me ! What's funny is that initially I wanted to simplify me life, go to the basics and not worry about the equipment because I already had a lot to do with the mess in my head.. So everything that is simple, sober me please (in theory) and I realize that by wanting everything reorganize, the Organization itself has become a real interest : How to make the space more efficient etc. (I missed a calling ?). At the moment I sell, I give, I sort, I looove sort also !
Thanks for all your good advice (Trello <3), sauf pour l'agenda Google parce qu'en bonne parano, I find that I already give too much of myself to Google ! ^^
And yes I am interested in photos of all your storage (report to your last article) !!

  47. 31 March 2016 at 9:03

Thanks for this very interesting article! I just tested Trello, It has the perfect air!

  48. 29 April 2016 at 13:58

Super useful article, I read it again for the tenth time :) Je note (for when I finally pay an internet phone with connection subscription ^^) : lists who remember a you when you pass near shop!!!!!
For trello, This is super useful in times of rush, When there is so much a do that I forget three quarters (or to follow nominations), CA finally allows to visualize things, It is a happiness :) Par contre, I can not put in first page of chrome. You will know how?
