Take resolutions and stick to them

Every year it's the same song, given freshly indigestion of Christmas and the hangover of the new year, It is purged, We want to start on the right foot and paf made his list of good resolutions.

I don't know why it is inflicted it while it is still more or less an admission of failure the following year. I put long before you know how to handle it and make something positive, so if you are interested I'll tell you how I get to keep my resolutions, because I have my small method.

I have not invented anything, I have a little adapted the method of “How to achieve your dreams” Timothy Ferris in his great book of personal development “Week 4 hours” (I recommend thousand times this book he changed everything in my life, my report to work, my life of freelance and business leader, My vision of life). But in short I digress.

The method is simple, Let guide you ^^

1 – Take a large sheet of paper

Need you a sheet of paper A4, or more to have room to write. Yes we must write and not just make a list in his head. When asked in writing things they appear simpler than if they remain concepts in your head. Alternatively, you can download This small plug of resolutions I prepared and print ^^

I put what thought me reasonable. For me the max is : two large resolutions (aka two tricks that you seem to difficult, who are big sites) and four smaller.

Example : last year my 2 LARGE resolutions were to resume drawing and put me in the kitchen, my small two resolutions were to return to vote and write more. Resume drawing was a big challenge because I have always had fear and also cooking because this was several years I tried without get there. Go and vote it was easier, It was just me moving to register again on the voters lists and write more on my blog too because it was not wondering a huge effort.

2 – List resolutions

You probably already have an idea of what you would like to or have always dreamed succeed to make or change in your life. It can be simple things : Read more books or get to sport. As of the ambitious. A single rule : be realistic in the formulation of your resolutions, It changes everything and that makes them less discouraging.

Example : you want to learn Japanese ? Write “engage in Japanese” (Yes and no “learn Japanese” succeed to put it is the most important and you don't learn a language in one year in all ways)1px

3 – Why it needs to change ?

It's always easier to go after something when you know why you take a resolution, It also helps give it a direction. Ask yourself the questions, It will also help you know if you do it for yourself, or for others.

Example : When I wanted to put myself in the kitchen it was because I wanted to eat healthier (It could also be to lose weight or save for example), It therefore gave me direction : get to know certain ingredients, find where to provide me, Discover simple recipes of products found according to the seasons.

4 – That is what prevents me ?

If you want to change something in your life, There is always something that you prevented to do so earlier, and we need to identify this reason, the sunset on paper about what course of action you can put in place to destroy or circumvent this obstacle.

Example : This year I want to put me in a seam but two things to prevent me from all the time I have my sewing machine : I miss of time and I do not have the place.

5 – Implement an action plan

Once you know which certainly could stand you in the way you can set up your small action plan being realistic. Once the foundations are good solid nothing can prevent you to carry out your small personal mission ^^

Example : for sewing I had make me clear my desk is too small so I am uncomfortable pou sewing, the first step will be to find the place (and as my house is tiny, rearrange things). For the time it will be necessary that I make the choices and I am honest with myself by listing what I can do concretely to release (sewing with girlfriends would be a good alternative since it would allow me to share two activities).

There you go !

It can be quite stupid air, but that's how it can work (After each is different). Me I need to organize myself, and it often goes through a transition to writing which has the merit to ask things.

This year I decided to seriously start sewing, and give courses in association (I told you in November). CA is for large resolutions, for small : continue to Learn how to draw letters and continue sport (I have already started so the hard part is done, my resolution wholesale is not drop ^^).
If you want to learn with me how we can improve their lives by playing on small changes, or even out of his comfort zone in a multitude of area which are your daily life ? Enter your first name + preferred e-mail address and click on "Let's go ! Let's go !”

On the road to adventure ?

Always of good Council Eleanor! Merci pour cet article :)
    I love to read you.

My big problem to me, This is the optimization of the time. I can't at all to organize myself so that my time. And the worst thing is that I know why : I tend to hang out, chopping my activities with breaks of 10 or 15 minutes. In the end, something that would take me 2 hours to takes me 4…

This year should I delete this bad habit.

  2. 7 January 2016 at 10:34

C’est génial, merci ! Because yes, like everyone else I am always full of good resolutions… that I do not want (always). Because I have too much and nothing is structured. So the fact of list a reasonable number, in order of priority and especially motivate will much help me. Your sheet is uploaded, It remains for me to sort to determine what will be really important for me this year ;)

I take the Council of reading with pleasure, It looks interesting ;)

It's funny, I also have two big resolutions this year, which one in common with you : seriously put me in a seam (even though I had already kinda started, I expected to have finished Lastman that takes me a crazy time) and limit my consumption of meat and fish once a week. I will not test your method!

And Happy New Year to you!

Excellent method !! It is true that identify its brakes and its motivations and think concretely about the implementation of a good resolution, It should be the basis !
Like you the attacks have pushed me to action : I finally took the time (especially that this is just a few clicks and a few envelopes to post) make regular donations to associations and sponsor a child. I have detailed stuff on my blog.
I would also like to invest myself in an association : I thought the reception of refugees may be helping them learn the french as I master good English. It must be clear that I ask myself to set everything to give really me the means.
Thanks for sharing this ! :)

As a read things seem easier, So yes write them both on, My question after you put these resolutions written on the wall, affin somewhere that they are always under the eyes, think about it, see them and carry them out ?

  9. 7 January 2016 at 14:08

Your article falls pic, I was just trying to make me a sheet with my resolutions for the new year.
So I will print your template and I put your book on my amazon wish list :) Merci !

I take this opportunity to tell you that you are one of the only blog that I find authentic and I read each article with attendance from now x year (even if I do almost never comment). Many of your articles really touched me, and I love the fact that you speak about many different things, some very personal as some more light, This kind of other blogs that show us that stuff has buy (Cosmetics, dud, deco…), and you're not in this “dictatorship of the cool” rampant on the Internet.

It's funny, on several occasions, I am in full reflection on a topic (stop the meat, are “cut” a bit of internet, stop the pill…) for a few months, and paf, you leave an article the above, full of common sense.

    Bref, continue !

    • 7 January 2016 at 15:38

Thank you it's nice ^^ thrilled that my small thoughts bring a little grain to grind to yours !

I won't comment on the resolutions (not my thing), but on the seam because I asked what I am offered courses for Christmas this year to me is also. Jai discovered that there were areas where we could not only take courses, but also to rent a sewing machine. Ideal when there is no place. I thought about it while reading your ticket, I said to myself that it could be of interest to you. I found this organization : http://www.brindecousette.com/location-machine-a-coudre/ but I imagine that there are other.

I have a friend who has launched a super little cafe couture called “fine haberdashery” and that gives super sewing course in the 11th, I think that's mainly it which will help me to me !

I live right next to the little strand and the only time where I entered the shop I them have not found very pleasing and I have never provided the feet :/

  11. 7 January 2016 at 14:30

Your approach is super ! Merci !
For sewing, I support you fully, I'm sure that you'll quickly learn !

otherwise nothing to do but your blog makes me slow down firefox. I do not know if any other readers have the same problem?

  14. 7 January 2016 at 15:22

Really nice this method, I really like. It looks rather simple and writing sometimes makes things and the more tangible objectives! Each year I take resolutions that I do not or hardly, but this year I am motivated and this method could be a trigger…
    Good luck for yours ;-)

  15. 7 January 2016 at 15:39

I don't ever want my resolutions and I still every year anyway. I will test this method this year! Will we believe!!

  16. 7 January 2016 at 17:55

Many thanks Eleanor for this article which is very inspiring!
Especially for a list of resolutions that I have printed and completed :-)
De mon côté, two large are “start an internet detox” and “better organize my working time”. I see in the comments that I am not the only visibly organization concerns and it reassures me a little :-)
For sewing, I started the year last with girlfriends: at the beginning were spent more time chatting to sew and gradually, It is there is put seriously! At the beginning I anonyomously wrong and my points were also regular than if I had sewn them during an earthquake, and just recently I finally managed to achieve my first kit which really looks like a kit and not two bits of fabric awkwardly caught in a skein of yarn :-)
I wish you to 2016 keep your good resolutions and to continue your blog successfully: it is always a pleasure to read you!

  17. 7 January 2016 at 19:20

Thank you for this post! I am agree with you nothing beats writing sometimes to really put flat things.
The advice of Camille de Mange your vegetables also much helped me to prioritize and organize my goals and actually incorporate them into my daily life. At the moment it works!

I really appreciate the turn that took your blog since last year, with just more writing, OWL Full pro or personal advice and sharing of opinion blogs. I look forward to continue to read you in 2016!

  18. 7 January 2016 at 19:49

I never thought to take things like that !! Ah the seam, all history ! Especially when we live in a small apartment !! And the time, always difficult to identify !
If you want tips for sewing, I can give you, the whole thing is to start with something easy and go as and to not be discouraged !
Dare I say that if ever we get to unlock time at the same time, We could sew together ???
Bisous, continue, your blog is not all his age ;)

Hello! Very good article (comme d’habitude) ! Your blog is always a good time to relax, Discovery, brief thank you!
Concerning General Assembly resolutions, I think we can start them a little anytime if we will listen a little.. Your technique is top I find.
Last year, I had a job really Nair and since my return from abroad in 2013, I wanted to resume studies. At the time I set this target in four months I found the master of my dreams, jzai mounted my folder and I took the course in September!
It is hard but the resolutions it pays!
At that time I had read is that frog, I highly recommend it! Biz

Thanks Eleanor for your return… I'll checker ca ;) Good Sunday

  22. 8 January 2016 at 0:17

Oh, merci, This article falls steeply ! I am very fan of “good resolutions earlier this year”. In recent years, I me note it on a word doc, and I do a mid-term stocktake at the beginning of September. And a final December balance. It is clear to every time, I do almost nothing… I put too many resolutions, big and small ! But I'm not just proud of keeping a big resolution 2015 : put me to the sport (It's good of pilates, 1hours per week, but I miss any course and I love, even my mother did not return home). This weekend it is said, I test ta method : I already have a large resolution (put me in English), and a small (continuing my pilates, pardi ^^).

  23. 8 January 2016 at 11:03

I have had the same path with resolutions : After years of not taking car “they aren't ever kept anyway”, I started a few years ago to get back because I like this feeling to have things to accomplish on one year and make a balance sheet.
My rules are quite similar to yours, 6 resolutions which the very “simple” are a maximum. I also try to draw one per year from my “list of things to do before you die” (I know have a list as it may seem weird but I can not find either macabre, on the contrary it is to take advantage of my chance to do many things !).
I simply add an important criterion that you have not mentioned : a formulation really precise and encrypted if possible. I noticed that “get to the race walk” or “running mostly” didn't work at all with me while “go for a run 2 fois par semaine” or “run 50 Km per month” beaucoup plus.
Another rule : do not be self-flagellation when doing a sprain, the important thing is to keep the resolution on the duration and the idea ! However if it makes a difference should quickly return to the path that it is fixed, otherwise it's insured skid :). For exemple : If I'm on vacation in a place that I view, I will not go for a run, but enjoy the visits ! However the week the back I'll really stick there.

    • 8 January 2016 at 12:45

Yes, you're right ! Pour moi “get to the race” This is the resolution and “run 2 fois par semaine” This is the action plan that little accompany other things type : find the right place, buy good shoes, get a playlist that makes you want to run ;)

It must be hyper concrete Yes and actually realistic, the important thing is the daily ^^

  24. 8 January 2016 at 14:34

Get to sewing… It is precisely my project this year !!! (Yes I'm talking about project rather than resolution)
I hope that you insert articles on the subject, you who have the gift to always offer something pretty and inspiring.

  25. 8 January 2016 at 16:28

I really liked this article ! Thanks for sharing with us your methods. It is true that I never take resolutions because I tell myself that we would never like them and that I am in lack of inspiration. But read you I realize that resolutions may be things all beasts such as get to do the things we want long and that is not due to lack of time or other. In any case it allowed me to see how implementing resolutions and how to organize them to stick.
Thank you for your very fun article :)

  26. 9 January 2016 at 13:36

    thanks for the advice !
“Week 4 hours”, It may be of interest to everyone (apply to artists by ex ?), or is it especially for businessmen or people working in office ? because I dare to advance a good resolution, It would work better (less and about as well…), but I am not sure that the tips from this book adapt to my activity. Thanks !

    • 10 January 2016 at 19:00

This is really for everyone, at the end of the book you have testimonials from people who have put into practice the book stuff and there is everything : the large family to the individual entrepreneur

Great idea ! It is an opportunity to buy a nice book to note. Ah ? One of my resolutions should no longer new purchase book as long as precedents are not at least filled more than half ? Uh…:)
